Monitoring of redevelopment and expansion of the Lighthouse took place intermittently from October to December 2012. The site is located within the area of archaeological potential for Dublin, and lies outside the medieval city in an area reclaimed from the River Stein in the late 17th century. The occupying buildings date to the early 19th century and seal 1.7m–deep reclamation clay deposit, over a thin layer of fluvial gravel and mud. Several adjacent plots have had archaeological investigations with similar findings. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during monitoring of construction, except a handful of 17th–18th-century ceramic tile and pottery recovered from residual contexts (a drain and reclamation).
