Monitoring of insertion of a new large bore sewerage outfall pipe extending along the shoreline breakwater wall at Kileel, Co. Down and turning south across the beach to a distance of c. 60m beyond the low water mark was carried out in response to a planning condition imposed upon the development by NIEA: HMU. Monitoring was carried out at low tide so as to facilitate the excavation and insertion of pipeline.  The pipe trench consisted of machine excavation to a depth of c. 2.5–3m below existing ground level commencing at the upper portion of the beach above the high water mark for a distance of c. 500m extending to 9m beyond the low water mark.  Monitoring identified the natural beach sedimentation with no archaeological deposits, features or artefacts noted.
