Monitoring of topsoil stripping was carried out at the site of a proposed mountain bike trail at Castlewellan over a period of two days in August 2012 in a response to planning conditions imposed upon the development. Topsoil was removed down to natural substrata. No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of these works.
