Test trenching was carried out in advance of the construction of an extension to a dwelling house at Killavallig, Kanturk, Co. Cork. The house is among four dwelling houses and two farmyards located within a large ecclesiastical enclosure (CO023-146-001). The enclosure measures c. 455m x c. 490m and is now bisected by a public road. The Archaeological Inventory of Co. Cork records a possible church site, a ringfort, and a possible ringfort within the enclosure. No trace of the church survives above ground. Both ringforts have been levelled but faint traces can be seen. The present development was located to the immediate south-west of an existing dwelling house and much of the area had been excavated for a previous extension, to a depth of c. 1m. No archaeological features or artefacts were encountered.
