Testing of a proposed development site at Curragh, Kanturk, Co. Cork was carried out as part of an impact assessment in October 2012. The development site is located adjacent to an upstanding ringfort CO023-079. A total of 14 test trenches were excavated on the site in the area of the proposed houses and in a green area adjacent to the ringfort. The remains of a possible ditch feature were uncovered in Trenches 1 and 2 located immediately south-east of the monument. The features measured between 2m and 3.1m in width and were exposed for a length of 2m across the width of the test trenches. Manual investigation of the features was not carried out, however given their proximity to the adjacent ringfort they were provisionally interpreted as the possible outer enclosing fosse of same. No further archaeological finds or features were uncovered elsewhere on the site.
