A programme of monitoring of topsoil stripping was undertaken at Lismagratty, Cootehill Road, Cavan in advance of the commencement of a commercial development (vehicle maintenance/storage unit and offices etc.) The work was carried out in compliance with a condition of the Grant of Planning issued by Cavan County Council. The site is located downslope to the south-south-east of a relatively well-preserved, though largely overgrown, ringfort (CV012-063). A minimum buffer of 27m was established between the outmost extremity of the monument and the closest extent of the development lands. All topsoil stripping onto the surface of the underlying sterile natural subsoils was monitored, and such ground reduction works were undertaken by mechanical excavator fitted with a wide toothless ditching bucket. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted.
