Monitoring of flood alleviation measures at Leighlinbridge was conducted at four separate areas inside the historic town. Intervention 1 was located beside the road to the Leighlinbridge sewage works and was 47m long x 1m deep x 1.2m wide. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted. Intervention 2 ran from a sump in a yard on Main Street and continued along the street until the bridge where it entered the river. The intervention was excavated to a depth of 2m. A property boundary wall marked on the first edition OS map and two box drains were recorded. Intervention 3 was also located on Main Street and was attached to the eastern end of Intervention 2. Intervention 3 ran from the entrance of the Garrison House and continued along Main Street into the same sump as Intervention 2. Intervention 3 was excavated to a depth of 2m and no finds or features of archaeological significance were documented. Intervention 4 was located at the southern end of the Leighlinbridge sewerage works yard and this also uncovered nothing of archaeological significance.
