Monitoring of groundworks was carried out in November 2012 in relation to Phase 2 works associated with the development of a wind farm at Carn Hill, Newtownabbey. Phase 1 works relating to the construction of access roads, turbine bases and associated features had been carried out under licence AE/11/87 (above No. 23) with nine areas of archaeological deposits uncovered.

The Phase 2 works related to the widening of access roads at nine pinch points and to create an assembly area at Turbine 1. One area of archaeological potential was uncovered during monitoring and consisted of two features, a cremation and a field boundary. These were located approximately 3m south of a roundhouse and 10m north of a ring ditch and cremation area uncovered during the Phase 1 works.

The cremation deposit was set within a sub-circular cut which measured 0.85m north-west to south-east by 0.5m by 0.2m deep. The cremation deposit consisted of frequent fragments of burnt bone within dark grey black silty clay. The field boundary was located approximately 1m east of the cremation and measured 14m north to south by 2.1m by 0.2m deep. It was filled with light grey brown silty clay.

No other features of archaeological significance were uncovered during the Phase 2 works.
