Archaeological surveillance was carried out at a residential site at Windsor Park in the Malone Area of Belfast prior to redevelopment. The site was developed originally in the early 20th century and again in the 1970s, however the Malone Area is an archaeologically sensitive area with a number of prehistoric findspots in close proximity to the site.
Archaeological work was carried out in two phases. The first phase was an archaeological evaluation of the site prior to the demolition of the upstanding buildings. This consisted of the mechanical excavation of seven evaluative trenches, 1.2m wide and ranging in length from 8.6-17m. The majority of finds were 19th or 20th century in date which corresponds to the original development on the site. The second phase was carried out after the demolition of the buildings on site and consisted of monitoring of the foundation dig (an area of approximately 2800m2). Nothing of archaeological significance was found.
