Testing was required by Bord Gáis Éireann at Great Island, as a proposed pipeline ran 16m from the western edge of a medieval moated site (WX039-019). The ground where the pipeline is proposed to run closest to the site was relatively flat, with no surface anomalies apparent. A single linear trench with offsets was excavated. The soil profile and consistency did not vary from trench to trench and no finds or features of potential archaeological significance were apparent in the trenches.
