The development at Loughanstown Lower, Rathowen, involved the construction of a 30m-high lattice telecommunications/3G support structure, carrying six panel antennae and four RT link dishes, with associated telecommunication cabinets and equipment located at ground level. The site compound measured 15m x 15m maximum. An existing farm track was upgraded and did not require excavation, with the exception of a small area where it was widened to approximately 10m.
Excavation of three test trenches within the land-take of the development failed to reveal either archaeological features or artefacts. In all trenches topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata.
