Test-trenching was undertaken in April 2011 in the area of a proposed café as part of a larger retail development on the site. The proposed café area measures 17m by 9m and is located in the area adjacent to the Bunow River in the south-western corner of the larger development area. Three trenches were excavated at the site. Nothing of an archaeological nature was uncovered in any of the test trenches. The cafe is located in an area of riverine gravels. During the course of excavations carried out by Aegis Archaeology Ltd in 2010, it was found that, in the areas closest to the river, no archaeological features were evident, as this was a small floodplain of the river and contained a mixture of gravels, sand and riverine clay (Excavations 2010, no. 631).
