Monitoring of works associated with the Suir River (Clonmel North and East) Drainage Scheme—Civil Works Contract commenced in January 2011. Monitoring will be carried out at the flood defence walls located around Suir Island, Monument and the dog track in Burgagery-Lands West and Burgagery-Lands East. Monitoring will also be undertaken at the construction of embankments at Suir Island (Oldbridge), Burgagery-Lands East, Raheen, Kilgainy Lower and Upper and Poulboy; at the proposed storm-water pipes, including seven pump stations located in the town centre and outskirts of Burgagery-Lands West and East, Kilgainy Lower and Poulboy; at the riverbank-widening at two locations in Raheen and Denis Burke Park; and during the demolition of the parapets at Old Bridge and the demolition of Streches Island Bridge.
A number of post-medieval and undated walls were identified on Suir Island and within the town limits during the monitoring. Works are ongoing and an updated summary will be issued in the 2012 bulletin
