Test-trenching was undertaken at Ballynaclogh, Nenagh, in April 2011. The proposed development entails the refurbishment of the later dwelling house (Protected Structure RPS S410) and ancillary site works. Five trenches were excavated on site. No archaeological features were identified in Trenches 2–5 but the basal courses of a wall were identified in Trench 1. This wall curves from the existing building (the protected structure) in the general direction of a nearby hall-house structure. This wall was 0.7m wide at the eastern side of the trench, 0.8m wide at the western side, and varied in height from 0.2m to 0.35m. It is likely that this is the remnant of a bawn wall, associated with the complex of buildings on the site, and is probably medieval in date.
