Pre-construction testing was undertaken as part of the seeking of planning permission to build a large housing estate on the outskirts of Trim town. The testing was undertaken following the completion of a Geophysical Survey and was guided by the findings from that survey.
Eight test trenches were opened at three specific locations, three different fields, within the proposed development site. The test trenches revealed a number of field drains, none dating from earlier than the early 20th century, a field boundary and parallel furrow scars. The main anomalies located by the Geophysical Survey appeared to have been caused by differences in the underlying natural deposits rather than by human activity.
