As a condition of planning to build a dwelling and garage on a site at Drumsawry, Oldcastle, it was requested that monitoring be carried out for the removal of topsoil and the excavation of trenches for foundations, services and drainage associated with the proposed development. There are three recorded monuments within 300m of the site of the proposed development. Monitoring of the topsoil removal was undertaken on 22–23 April 2011. A mechanical excavator with a toothless bucket was utilised to strip the topsoil from all areas of the development site affected by groundworks. No archaeological deposits were uncovered.
