A proposed dwelling at Castletown Tara is located 2km north-west of the Hill of Tara and there are four recorded monuments within 0.5km of the site. A field inspection involving a walk-over of the proposed site was carried out as part of the impact assessment. This revealed no traces of surface/above-ground features. A small polished stone axehead was, however, recovered from just north of the site, which testifies to the archaeological sensitivity of the area. Field inspection was followed by a site evaluation via archaeologically monitored test trenches. No deposits of archaeological potential were uncovered.
