Monitoring of a portion of the site was carried out with a view to protecting the underlying brick tunnel connecting Athboy Lodge stable yard with Athboy Lodge. The brick tunnel is a protected structure, ME29-0299, and was identified during the course of test-trenching by Matthew Seaver (CRDS Ltd) as part of an initial assessment of the site (Excavations 2008, no. 936, 08E0278). Works proposed in the vicinity of the tunnel included the erection of the original gates of Athboy Lodge, and perimeter fencing. No disturbance of the tunnel and stable yard was noted during the course of these works. The monitoring was sponsored by Macquarie Partnerships for Ireland.
