Monitoring is being undertaken for the Corrib Onshore Gas Pipeline in the townlands of Bellagelly, Aghoose and Glengad. This phase of monitoring follows a previous archaeological, architectural and cultural heritage assessment of the proposed onshore pipeline carried out by Margaret Gowen and Co. Ltd, along with an assessment of underwater archaeology undertaken by the Archaeological Diving Company Ltd (ADCO). It also follows monitoring carried out at Glengad and Broadhaven Bay in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2009 and testing carried out at Aughoose in 2010 and 2011.
Work commenced in July 2011 and is ongoing. Nothing of archaeological significance has been identified to date. An updated summary will be submitted in the 2012 bulletin.
