Monitoring took place during refurbishment of a playground in 2010 (Excavations 2010, no. 475). Referred to as Mercy Park, the site is located in the north-western sector of Ballina town. Formerly part of Ballina Union Workhouse, it was used as a burial ground in the 19th century. Landscaping of the finished playground occurred during spring 2011 and monitoring for a period of six weeks took place at this time. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered.
