Pre-development testing of a site at Inver townland was carried out over a five-day period between 10 and 16 August 2011. The proposed development, which was in the pre-planning phase, consisted of the construction of a sport and community facility. Testing was required owing to the size of the proposed development area (1.38ha) and its proximity to an unclassified megalithic tomb (MA010-037001) and associated field system (MA010-037002). The monument had only recently been added to the Sites and Monuments Record. The nearest boundary of the proposed development was located 20.675m from the monument.
The site was to the east of Inver village, in an area of bog. The field was bounded to the north-north-west by the Owenduff River, while immediately west of the site was a Roman Catholic church and a modern housing development. There were no archaeological features visible within the site. Testing consisted of the excavation (by machine) of thirteen trenches, positioned to best cover the development area. The trenches measured 76m, 39.4m, 39m, 50.2m, 50m, 59.9m, 59m, 69.4m, 14.4m, 99.9m, 105.8m, 110m and 114.2m long respectively, 1–1.6m wide and 0.1–1.6m deep. Below the peat and/or peaty topsoil was natural subsoil. No artefacts were recovered from the testing. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
