A systematic testing programme was undertaken at the location of 21 wind turbine bases and associated hard-stand areas in the townland of Carrowleagh, near Bunnyconnellan, in November 2011. This consisted of excavation of a total of 2,100m² of test trenches. The remains of a very ephemeral spread of heat-affected stones and charcoal measuring 2.1m x 0.6m x 0.5–0.1m deep was identified near the southern end of Test Trench 16 at Turbine 16, at 36568 21110 (±6m). This feature extends eastward beyond the test trench. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological potential were identified in any of the other test trenches. A scan of the topsoil from the trenches produced no finds, and only very occasional clay pigeon sherds and fertiliser bag fragments.
