Testing was undertaken on 17–18 August 2011 in advance of the N51 Littlegrange Road Improvement Scheme, between Drogheda and Slane in Littlegrange td. Eight trenches, amounting to 728 linear metres (1,310m2 or 10.5% of the area), were excavated. All trenches were excavated to the level of subsoil or to the top of archaeological deposits, where present. A total of sixteen 2m x 2m test pits were excavated and sieved in order to assess the lithics potential. Significant ground reduction (up to 1.5m) has taken place along the southern boundary with the N51, resulting in the absence of archaeological material in this area.
No archaeological sites were identified along the scheme. A number of artefacts were collected, including two probable Neolithic flint flakes and two natural stone objects, along with modern ceramic and glass.
