This narrow site, between a probably 17th-century graveyard, abandoned in 1783 (Moore 2003, 183, no. 1435) and standing almost 2m above the street pavement, and a butcher’s shop, was tested by two trenches running from the street front to the back of the site.
The trenches took up almost the whole width and area of the site and reached sterile ground immediately under the fill beneath the demolished building; there were no archaeological discoveries and so the small amount of remaining ground was dug out. The wall of the butcher’s shop was underpinned and the graveyard wall was secured.
