The purpose of the work at Newtown Jerpoint was to excavate, at the request of the landowner, a small area surrounding two medieval grave-slabs in St Nicholas’ graveyard to establish whether any additional slabs were located beside them. This proved not to be the case. Osteological analysis by James Cahill of human remains retrieved during the course of the excavation identified 270 fragments of disarticulated bone. The highly fragmented nature of the assemblage severely limited the information that could be obtained from the analysis. Nonetheless, it was found that a minimum of four individuals was represented in the assemblage. The analysis also indicated that both adults and children were buried in the cemetery. Only one fragment from a pelvis could be tentatively sexed and this was from a male.
