Test excavations were undertaken for a 2.7ha extension to an operating sand and gravel pit at Sheastown. Testing of a proposed northern extension area to the quarry was undertaken previously in 2007 (Excavations 2007, no. 1018, 07E576). This yielded nothing of archaeological significance. Nine trenches were excavated in the 2011 extension, which was within the area of constraint for a probable moated site. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted in these excavated test trenches. It was recommended that the topsoil-stripping for the development be monitored.
