Carbury 1 and 2 were discovered during testing undertaken by Fintan Walsh (Excavations 2011, No. 361; 11E0246) within the footprint of the R402 Enfield to Edenderry Road Improvements Scheme in September 2011. The sites were excavated in November 2011 on behalf of Kildare County Council.
Carbury 1 consisted of a small burnt mound, 8m x 5m x 0.2m deep, with two associated small pits and nineteen stake-holes.
Carbury 2 consisted of a probable tree bole and two metallurgical waste pits, one measuring 0.45m x 0.4m x 0.45m deep and the other 0.4m x 0.25m x 0.4m deep.
