An assessment to include test excavations was commissioned by Kildare County Council as a component of a Part VIII planning application for an extension to the cemetery of the Blessed Trinity RC Church (built c. 1830), Moone. The nearest recorded monuments—KD038-005, standing stone, and KD038-057, barrow—were 650m south-east of the proposed development area. A kilometre to the west was the Columban monastery and medieval borough of Moone, comprising KD036-031 (ecclesiastical remains), KD036-032 (tower-house), KD036-033 (enclosure site) and KD036-043 (holy well site). Four test trenches were dug in the field to the east of the graveyard and nothing of archaeological interest was noted.
