Kishawanny Upper 1, 2 and 3 were discovered during testing by Fintan Walsh (above, No. 361; 11E0246) undertaken within the footprint of the R402 Enfield to Edenderry Road Improvements Scheme in September 2011. The sites were excavated in November 2011 on behalf of Kildare County Council.
Kishawanny Upper 1 comprised a large pit measuring 4.2m x 3.1m x 0.55m deep, filled with a disturbed mixture of burnt mound material and modern debris.
Kishawanny Upper 2 consisted of elements of a modern field system and a fluvial silt clay deposit containing some burnt, heat-shattered stone.
Kishawanny Upper 3 contained two charcoal-production kilns, the largest measuring 2.33m x 1.11m x 0.14m deep and the smallest 0.66m x 0.46m x 0.04m deep, and some modern furrows.
