Manor East 4 was discovered during a first phase of testing undertaken by Tony Bartlett (c/o Headland Archaeology (Ireland) Ltd) along the proposed N22 Tralee Bypass/Tralee to Bealagrellagh in 2010 (Excavations 2010, no. 391, E4149). The site was excavated, on behalf of the National Roads Authority, between 4 and 8 April 2011.
Manor East 4 consisted of a dryland area containing a small number of pit and post features concentrated within a 12m by 10m area. The site was located adjacent to what appeared to be a former stream channel sealed by peat. A number of cut and trimmed branches and stakes were recovered from throughout the peat, although no discernible pattern or structure was identified. It is presumed that the features are contemporary. They possibly represent the remnants of a temporary camp. One of the features produced prehistoric pottery.
