A condition of planning permission for a five-turbine (Turbines 10–14) wind farm at Cahercullenagh Upper requested testing of the turbine bases and access roads. No archaeological monuments are located within the site boundary and the nearest recorded monument (KE030-022) is c. 380m to the south of the southern site boundary. Twenty-six test trenches were excavated on the site in the area of the turbine bases and access roads (approx. 1,045m). The peat depth varied between 0.3m and 0.7m and a stony natural orange clay was exposed at the base of all of the excavated trenches. Two of the five turbine bases have yet to be tested, as no access to them was possible at the time of testing.
