Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a new sewage treatment plant and percolation area was undertaken within the curtilage of Carrowroe House on 6 and 7 September 2011. Monitoring was required owing to the proximity of the proposed development to RO040-051, a deserted settlement.
The stratigraphic sequence remained uniform across the entire site, consisting of a layer of topsoil, 0.35–0.45m deep, overlying undisturbed mid-brown, orangish silty clay subsoil. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were noted.
