A programme of testing was carried out on the site of a proposed agricultural shed at Caheravoley, Tuam Road. The development involves the construction of a 174m2 shed and associated works. It is located to the immediate west of GA050-068 and 68001, classified as a ringfort and souterrain.
Testing took place on 2 December 2011 in wet and wintry conditions. Three test trenches were excavated within the proposed footprint of the shed. Excavation exposed a significant amount of site disturbance to the north-west of the site. This relates to previous groundworks carried out by council workmen who used the area to dump rubble. South of this area the stratigraphy consisted of natural layers of topsoil overlying an orange-brown silt over a grey-brown natural boulder clay. There were no finds or features of archaeological potential evident.
