Monitoring was undertaken for RPS at Onaght, Inishmore, on 8 July 2011 on behalf of Galway County Council. The proposed development involves the construction of a water treatment facility and associated service works. The site covers an area of approximately 80m x 70m and is currently occupied by two large reservoirs—one round in plan, the other rectangular—and a small three-bay two-storey pump house. The boundary of the site is clearly defined by a low, thick limestone wall with limestone rubble gate piers and aluminium gates.
The area has been extensively disturbed by the previous construction of the two water tanks and their related services. Current works involved the reopening of the trenches that hold the service pipes to the north of the circular water tank. No archaeological deposits or features were identified.
