Monitoring was undertaken at Northampton, Kinvarra, on 22–24 February 2011 for RPS on behalf of Galway County Council. The proposed development involves the construction of a water treatment facility and associated service works. The footprint size of the proposed treatment plant is 60m by 40m. Prior to the construction works the site was occupied by a large steel reservoir tank, a small pump house and a smooth, level tarmacadam-surfaced road with concrete kerbing.
Topsoil was stripped across the available areas of the development site. An area measuring 25m by 20m was excavated to the south of the existing reservoir. A further area measuring approximately 20m by 4m was also monitored once the existing tarmac and hardcore had been removed. No archaeological deposits or features were identified.
