Monitoring of groundworks at a development at An Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe, Middle Street, Galway, was carried out over five site visits between 4 November and 16 December 2011. The development consisted of internal and external material alterations and improvement works to the existing theatre, which opened on 27 August 1928 in a building constructed around 1910, possibly on the site of the Augustinian nunnery founded in the early 18th century. The building, which is located within the medieval city of Galway, was substantially renovated during the years 1977–8.
The limited groundworks revealed modern disturbance above a post-medieval deposit which produced pottery sherds, a clay pipe bowl and a quernstone fragment.
