Monitoring was undertaken at Derryoober West, Co. Galway, on 10 January 2011 for RPS on behalf of Galway County Council. The proposed development involves the construction of a water treatment plant. The footprint size of the plant is 8m by 5m. In addition, some ancillary works will be required at the site. These include roads, paths, fencing, drainage, site ducting, pipework rearrangement and landscaping.
The area on which the proposed treatment plant is to be constructed was subject to past improvements in the form of levelling, with stone overlying a layer of terram. Monitoring of a small test hole took place on 10 January, during which only the modern stone layer was disturbed.
The access road, which extends approximately 330m to the west, did not involve ground disturbance, as it was constructed using stone overlying a layer of terram, with any necessary pipework enclosed within the stone layers. No archaeological features or deposits were identified
