The proposed development is located at 166–168 Main Street, Lisnaskea, and consisted of commercial and residential premises. The development concerns the phased renovation and refurbishment of the premises to provide a new ground-floor pharmacy unit, three apartments above and four additional retail units to the rear of the pharmacy unit. Groundworks associated with the development included the partial demolition of the existing retail units and rear returns as well as the construction of the new retail units and associated services. As noted, the development is phased, with only the new pharmacy unit and adjacent retail unit developed at this stage.
There are twelve recorded archaeological sites within the vicinity of the proposed development, which is also situated within the boundaries of the historic settlement of Lisnaskea (FER246-063), designated as an area of historical and archaeological significance.
Monitoring of groundworks for the current phase of the proposed scheme took place between June and August 2011. These groundworks included the lifting of floor slabs within the buildings and concrete ground surfaces to the rear of the properties, which were found to overlie either subsoil or bedrock.
No archaeological deposits were uncovered in this phase of the development.
