Testing was undertaken within the site of a proposed residential development at Beaverstown and Rahillion, Donabate, Co. Dublin. Geophysical survey identified two areas of archaeological potential within the area of proposed development, representing possible spreads of burnt material (Licence Ref.: 07R0257). Consultation with the NMS of the DoAHG resulted in the recommendation that test excavation was required to assess the archaeological potential of the site. Testing was carried out within the area of proposed development in order to investigate the archaeological potential of geophysical anomalies and the potential for remains of a ringfort, as indicated in the townland name Rahillion.
Twelve test trenches were excavated across the area of proposed development. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during testing. All of the geophysical anomalies were interpreted as natural variations in subsoil.
