Monitoring of topsoil-stripping and cable trench excavations associated with the High Voltage Cable—East–West Interconnector Project (HVC EWIP) continued during 2011 (see Excavations 2010, no. 234, for earlier report). Additional topsoil-stripping of lands at the eastern and western extremities of Rogerstown Td, together with areas of Balleally East, Corduff Common, Corduff Hall, Corduff, Ballyboghil, Leastown, Oldtown and Ballymadun, was undertaken. In addition, trench excavations were completed within the urban area of Rush and almost along the entire route of the cable line to County Meath. Additional post-medieval pottery sherds and clay pipe stems were recovered from trench excavations along roads, as well as from a number of the greenfield areas. In addition, a cemetery complex was uncovered in Rogerstown; this was subsequently investigated by Clare Mullins (see No. 229 below).
Cable-trench excavations are scheduled to be completed in early 2012.
