The second phase of monitoring of topsoil-stripping/site preparation works associated with the construction of a mixed-use development on the southern section of the former Dun Laoghaire Golf Club was undertaken in October. The lands are partially situated within the townlands of Honeypark and Monkstown North. Previous research indicates that there are no monuments of archaeological interest located within, or in the immediate environs of, the proposed development area. Likewise, nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered during a limited programme of testing and monitoring of geotechnical trial pit investigations undertaken in 2008 (Excavations 2008, no. 451), although in excess of 400 sherds of pottery, mostly medieval in date, were recovered during the first phase of monitoring (Excavations 2009, no. 333).
The present phase of the development was concentrated along the north central area of the site and comprised works associated with the provision of access roads, houses and a lake feature. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered during the course of this phase of monitoring, and a number of 19th-century clay pipe stems and pottery sherds were recovered from the topsoil.
