Testing, which took one day to complete, was undertaken at the National Children’s Detention Facilities, Oberstown, Lusk, Co. Dublin, on a site measuring approximately 21.5ha. The development involved the construction of approximately 650m of security fencing in an area (the north-western, northern and eastern ends of the site) which was not available for test trenching at the time of the first phase of fieldwork in 2010 (Excavations 2010, no. 285).
The excavation of five test trenches failed to reveal any archaeological features or artefacts. On all occasions topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata. Two modern stone drains were recorded as part of the test-trenching exercise.
