Intermittent monitoring was carried out between January and August 2011 at the grounds of Parnell’s GAA Club, Coolock, Dublin 17, in relation to the development of a new clubhouse and playing pitches. Monitoring followed an assessment carried out in September 2010 (Excavations 2010, no. 248, 10E0350). The assessment identified archaeological features in the north-eastern area of the site, interpreted as a medieval field system with possible associated settlement features. An assemblage of medieval pottery ranging in date from the 12thto the 14th century was recovered during testing and was mostly made up of locally made wares but included a small quantity of imported pottery from England and France. The archaeological area identified during testing was preserved in situ beneath layers of fill built up to create a playing pitch. Nothing further of archaeological significance was uncovered during the monitoring of construction works at the site.
