Monitoring revealed that there were no archaeological remains present on the site. Owing to the sloping nature of the site, the ground at the front (where the site fronted Movilla Street) was reduced by c. 1m, while the ground at the rear of the site was at the required level.
The stratigraphy consisted of a layer of tarmac overlying a layer of pinkish modern hardcore, which had been laid on the sand and gravel subsoil. It was obvious that the site had been cleared after the demolition of any houses that had been present, as there was no demolition rubble. The only evidence that any structure had been present was a single ceramic sewer pipe that ran the width of the site.
