The site was discovered during Stage (i) testing along the route of the proposed N56 Mountcharles–Inver Road Scheme in 2010. It contained one burnt spread with a maximum length of 4.4m, a maximum width of 2.9m and a maximum depth of 0.05m. The burnt spread was an irregular oval deposit of silty clay with occasional charcoal and some heat-shattered stones. No cut was detected. No artefacts or dating material were retrieved.
There is a possibility that the burnt spread extends beyond the limits of the road scheme CPO and that the excavated area is only a small part of further possible burnt mound activity.
This project was funded by Donegal County Council and the National Roads Authority and it took place in February 2011.
