Testing took place in the townlands of Cloughbolie and Meenacam along the proposed N56 Cloughbolie to Boyoughter Road Improvement Scheme. The scheme falls within the wider N56 Dungloe and Glenties Improvement Scheme. There are no known archaeological features present within the lands required and the area was deemed to be of extremely low archaeological potential.
Twenty-five test trenches were opened within three designated areas along the scheme. Fourteen test trenches were opened in Test Area 1 in Cloughbolie townland at the northern end of the proposed realignment. The remaining trenches were excavated in the townland of Meenacam in the other two areas designated for the works. No archaeological remains or artefacts were encountered during the testing.
