Trial trenching was carried out on the licence application area. Trial trenches were opened at 20m intervals across the width of the area and the topsoil was removed down to the subsoil. The topsoil had a maximum depth of 0.2m and came down onto sticky firm boulder clay; no archaeological artefacts or cut features were discovered during the trial trenching.
