A programme of monitoring of topsoil removal was undertaken between 27 October and 7 November 2011, and on 10 January 2012, at Dairygold Food Ingredients Ltd, Castle Farm, Mitchelstown. The proposed development involved the construction of a low-rate digester, consisting of a post-tensioned circular tank, utilities building and ancillary services. Topsoil was stripped across the whole of the development site—an area measuring approximately 270m by 130m, or a total area of 4.47ha. No archaeological deposits or features were identified.
