Monitoring of topsoil removal was carried out on 27 April 2011 over the entire development site for a dwelling house at Johnstown, Kilmichael. Pre-development testing had already been carried out at this site on 23 February 2008 in advance of planning being granted (Excavations 2008, no. 247). The stratigraphy consisted of between 0.8m (nearest the public road) and 0.3m of topsoil overlying a stony grey/brown boulder clay. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted during monitoring, apart from the fire-reddened subsoil marking the site of a previously levelled limekiln.
