Pre-development test excavation was carried out on 17 June 2011 in advance of the construction of a dwelling house and associated works at Bawnlahan, Union Hall, within the zone of archaeological potential of a fortified house (CO142-109). The actual location of this fortified house is unknown. Seven test trenches were opened and, at the request of the National Museum, a metal-detector was used on the upcast and within the trenches. The stratigraphy consisted of c. 0.3m of a grey/brown [a grey/brown what?] overlying grey/yellow mottled boulder clay. No finds or features of archaeological significance were noted.
